Free Community Paddling in Concrete Plant Park

June 10, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Visit Concrete Plant Park for a free community paddling event hosted by the Bronx River Alliance. Canoes will be available for groups and kayaks will be available for individuals, making it possible for anyone to join this beginner- and family-friendly event. Registration isn't required, but the event is first come, first served, so be sure to get there early.

Free Community Paddling in Starlight Park

June 17, 11 a.m-3 p.m.

Join the Bronx River Alliance for a free community paddling event at Starlight Park. Both large canoes and smaller kayaks will be available at this beginner- and family-friendly event, making it possible for anyone to join. Trolley tour of Woodlawn

June 10, 3 p.m.

Attend a Bronx History Tour at Woodlawn Cemetery. The tour will be led by Sarah Eccles, a Bronx resident and preservationist for the Landmark's Preservation Commission. Attendees will learn how many streets in the Bronx got their names and visit the gravesites of notable Bronxites. At the end of the tour, the trolley will take guests to the Bronx Beer Hall, which offers New York state beers and local brews. Get your tickets here.

Concert: "For Ibrahim With Love"

June 11, 3 p.m.

Celebrate the life of the late creative Ibrahim Gonzalez with an afternoon of music at the Woodlawn Cemetery. Gonzalez was an accomplished video producer, photographer and radio host, in addition to being a percussionist, pianist, composer and music producer. Hair braiding tutorials

June 10, 2 p.m.-4 p.m.

Visit Poe Park to learn the fundamentals of hair braiding, parting and styling at this free community event. Explore the history of braiding as an important art form while simultaneously learning the skill of hair braiding.

Natural Lighting Photography

June 8 and 9, 4 p.m.-5 p.m.

Visit the Bronx Library Center for a fun afternoon of photography. Take some photos or have your photo taken on the library's outdoor terrace while learning about how to make the most of natural lighting.

Teen Fashion Workshop Series

June 10, 12 p.m.-2 p.m.

Teens are invited to participate in the third week of a five-week, beginner-friendly fashion workshop series in celebration of Bronx fashion. Young fashion lovers looking for knowledge and experience in the industry will learn all about casting calls, basic poses and other fashion-related tips as part of these workshops. The series will end with a real fashion show in October, where participants will get to show off everything they’ve learned.

Bronx Anti-Prom at NYPL

June 9, 6 p.m.-9 p.m.

Teens are invited to The New York Public Library's annual Anti-Prom at the Grand Concourse Library. Choose to just show up and relax in the company of others, or go all out and dance the night away. Bronx Book Festival

June 9-11

Attend the Bronx is Reading's sixth annual Bronx Books Festival. The kickoff party will take place on June 9 at Sankofa Haus where Bronx is Reading will announce the next Bronx Poet Laureate. The festival will gather in-person on June 10 to celebrate books and their authors at Fordham Plaza and Fordham University. The programming will continue on June 11 through virtual platforms. Bronx Yoga Summit

June 24, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Join Bronx Holistic Healing and at 174th Street and Southern Boulevard at Boston Road for the Bronx Yoga Summit. Yoga enthusiasts at all levels are welcome to participate. Those who attend will learn about yoga studios and resources throughout the Bronx. The event also features a panel discussion called "Break It Down: What Is Yoga?" and an exhibition hall that will feature yoga, healing and Wellness products.

Super Seedlings event

June 10 and 17, 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m.

Children ages 3-7 accompanied by an adult are invited to Van Cortlandt Park to dig, plant and do crafts together. Kids are encouraged to experience nature within the Bronx through hands-on play with an emphasis on learning to care for the environment around them.

Juneteenth celebration

June 19, 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m.

The Van Cortlandt Park Alliance and the Bronx Arts Ensemble are hosting a free event to celebrate Juneteenth. The event will begin on the deck of the Van Cortlandt Gold House with music and spoken word performances. Then there will be a drum procession to the Enslaved African Burial Ground at which there will be a libation ceremony in memory of the enslaved African people who built Van Cortlandt Park.

Free concert for kids

June 7, 1 p.m.

Multi-Grammy nominated Bobby Sanabria and his Multiverse Big Band are performing at a free concert for kids at the Repertory Theater. The performance is meant to highlight and honor the connection that ​​New Orleans and Louis Armstrong have to Latin music. The band will trace the ties between African and Latin Jazz from New York to New Orleans to Armstrong, who lived in Queens.

Father's Day barbecue

June 10, 12 p.m.-3 p.m.

Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson's office is hosting a Father's Day barbecue cookout celebration. The event also includes a car show, live music, entertainment, games, vendors and more.

The Duprees concert

June 11, 5 p.m.-7:30 p.m.

The Duprees are bringing their iconic Doo Wop music to the Bronx. Located on the Jacobi Hospital grounds, the Duprees are being joined by their friends Twin Gold and the Bel Aires & Joey & The Paradons. Get your tickets here.

The Orchestra of the Bronx

June 11, 3 p.m.-5 p.m.

Michael Spierman, the founder and conductor of the Orchestra of the Bronx, is putting on a concert of Mendelssohn's "Symphony No. 3" and the Tschaikowsky Violin Concerto in D Major featuring special guest violinist Patrick Doane on Sunday. The concert features a 40-member orchestra, composed of musicians from other major orchestras and Broadway shows. The concert is free for all attendees, in line with the company's goal to allow everyone to experience the orchestra.

Dream OUT LOUD CommUNITY Affair

June 10, 12 p.m.-5 p.m.

Dream OUT LOUD Innovators and Vision U We-R-Arts INC. is inviting underprivileged youth, families and community members to the Creston Avenue Playground in Fordham Heights for a day of arts & crafts, food and activities aimed at supporting mental health. Attendees are encouraged to express themselves through therapeutic art activities in order to develop important coping mechanisms and to better support those around them. Skate party in the Bronx

June 23, 4 p.m.-7 p.m.

Join NYC Parks and Councilmember Kevin Riley for a skate party at Agnes Haywood Playground in Williamsbridge. There will also be music and dancing. Skates will be provided for attendees while supplies last, so feel free to bring your own.

Bronx Rockets speed-walking

June 7, 14, 21, and 28, 6 p.m.-7 p.m.

The Bronx Rockets, a community walk/run group in the Bronx, is offering their speed-walking club every Wednesday evening. The organization focuses on community wellbeing by offering participants an alternative to running that helps get people in shape while relieving stress from the day. Meet up at Joseph Yancey Track and Field across from Yankee Stadium. The group also offers morning walks or runs on Saturdays at 8:30 a.m. at Rev. T. Wendell Foster Park (also known as Mullaly's Park).

Reimagine the Cross Bronx: Issue Identification Workshop

June 14, 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.

Attend these workshops to help reimagine the Cross Bronx by helping to define the most urgent issues facing the area and surrounding communities. The goal of these workshops is to help connect and ameliorate communities across the expressway corridor. There will be another workshop that shares the same information on June 20 at the Bronx School of Young Leaders. Learn more about the workshops here.
