Two Park Ridge teens are facing charges in connection with the Wednesday, May 17 alleged theft of fitness equipment from the closed Lattof YMCA building on Northwest Highway in Des Plaines.

According to reports, Des Plaines officers responded to the YMCA for a call of a suspicious incident. Officers arrived on the scene and spoke with a witness who observed a black SUV parked next to the YMCA and subjects removing objects from inside the building.

Officers observed a board and air conditioning unit on the ground creating and opening into the building. The witness was able to take a picture of the vehicle's license plate and also had the incident captured on his home security cameras. Officers then went to the address the vehicle was registered to and spoke with the registered owner. The owner was advised of the situation and through further investigation it was learned that Konrad Trzak, 421 W. Talcott, Park Ridge, allegedly entered the YMCA and removed fitness equipment from the building.

Officers spoke to Trzak who, police said, admitted to the incident and showed officers the stolen items at the residence. Trzak was taken into custody and transported to the downtown Des Plaines Police Station. Once at the station, Trzak was provided his Miranda Warnings which he waved and agreed to speak with officers. Trzak said he and Edwin Krupa, 920 Devon Ave., Park Ridge, went into the YMCA and took the equipment without permission, reports said. Officers went to the residence of Krupa where he was taken into custody and transported to the Des Plaines Police Station, reports added. Krupa allegedly refused to speak with officers. The Cook County State's Attorney's Office was contacted and later approved felony charges for Trzak. Trzak was subsequently arrested for one felony count of Burglary and one misdemeanor count of Criminal Trespass to Real Property. Krupa was subsequently arrested for one misdemeanor count of Criminal Trespass to Real Property, said police. After posting the required bond, Krupa was released from the station and provided his court information. Trzak was transported to the Cook County courthouse for a bond hearing.
